Our commercial scope · carbon as the organizing element

More than captured CO₂.
More than recycling.

CRT explores the commercial relationships among carbon-bearing resources, advanced carbon materials, products, manufacturing, operating environments, inventions, market requirements and the people who can make a new system economically viable.

Carbon is the organizing element. Recycling is one type of transformation. Economic advantage is the commercial test.

01 / CLOSED-LOOP & RECOVERED FEEDSTOCKS

Carbon recycling

Recover carbon-containing waste or previously used materials and put the recovered carbon or material back into useful supply chains.

  • Reclaimed carbon fiber and carbon black
  • Recovered plastics, graphite and textiles
  • Organic waste converted into marketable products

02 / CHEMISTRY, BIOLOGY & MINERALIZATION

CO₂ and carbon conversion

Convert CO₂ or qualifying carbon-containing inputs into distinct chemicals, fuels, minerals, polymers, biological products or materials.

  • CO₂ → formate, methanol or polymers
  • CO₂ → carbonates or qualified aggregates
  • Reactive capture, catalysts and bioconversion

03 / ENGINEERED MATERIALS & PERFORMANCE

Carbon-based materials

Materials made substantially from carbon or engineered with functional carbon forms. They may be virgin, fossil-derived, biogenic, synthetic or recycled; these are not interchangeable classifications.

  • Graphite, graphene, carbon fiber, carbon black
  • Conductive carbons, electrodes and composites
  • Polymers, coatings and specialty chemicals

04 / LIVING SYSTEMS & RECOVERED BIOMASS

Biogenic carbon

Carbon originating from living organisms or relatively recent biological processes can feed new products, research or circular markets.

  • Algae, lignin, cellulose and biomass
  • Agricultural, forestry and food residuals
  • Biochar, soil amendments and bioproducts

05 / PRODUCTS, INFRASTRUCTURE & MARKETS

Carbon-enabled innovation

Systems whose economic function depends on carbon science, carbon materials, carbon supply, qualified use, detection, separation or management—even without recycling carbon directly.

  • Battery electrodes and thermal management
  • HVAC capture concepts and gas separations
  • Sports surfaces, mineral testing, diagnostics

WHY ANY COMPANY OR CAMPUS BELONGS

One element. Many market interfaces.

Enter CRT when a company, facility or institution has a real or plausible connection through what it makes, buys, uses, emits, processes, researches, moves, owns, finances or must prove.

  • A company can be buyer, supplier, site owner or capital participant
  • A campus can contribute science, procurement, facilities or talent
  • A market opportunity can connect multiple actors before any formal partnership

A discipline that makes broad scope credible

Not everything containing carbon is an opportunity.

CRT does not include a product solely because carbon atoms are present. The commercial record should document these successive evidence gates:

  1. Carbon mechanism: which carbon resource, form, material, system function or process is materially relevant?
  2. Economic case: who could benefit and through cost, performance, revenue, risk or strategic position?
  3. System interfaces: inputs, outputs, locations, complementary research, suppliers, buyers, permissions and rights.
  4. Technical proof: mass/energy balance, standards, safety, scale and measurable performance against a baseline.
  5. Commercial proof: buyer requirements, procurement thresholds, contracts or sponsor willingness before committing further spend.
  6. Environmental proof when claimed: applicable LCA, provenance, accounting and independent verification. Carbon recycling, utilization, emissions avoidance, storage and durable removal are different claims.

Scientific references and data provenance

DOE / NETL describe CO₂ conversion pathways including biological uptake, catalytic synthesis and mineralization into products. Their narrower technical definitions do not cover every advanced carbon material in CRT's wider editorial marketplace taxonomy. Relevant sources: NETL Carbon Dioxide Conversion Program; DOE Carbon Management; NCES IPEDS institution directory; SEC EDGAR.

The editorial market taxonomy and named-market associations are CRT design hypotheses, not DOE endorsements, academic endorsements, verified IP-license availability or verified carbon-removal statements.
